East La Penitence man arrested with 1410g suspected cannabis

A 28-year-old man from East La Penitence, Georgetown, was arrested on Sunday morning after he was caught with 1410 grams of suspected marijuana.
The discovery was made sometime around 09:00h at an unfinished house in Den Amstel, West Coast Demerara.
Acting on information received, Police said ranks went to Den Amstel, where contact was made with the male suspect who was found standing next to a table.
The table had a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis along with a bulky black haversack.
One of the ranks, identified himself to the suspect as a policeman dressed in plain clothing, and in the presence of the other ranks told the suspect of his suspicion.
They then carried out further searches, and inside the black haversack which was on the table were two transparent plastic bags each containing a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis.
The 28-year-old man was cautioned, arrested and escorted to the Leonora Police Station, where the suspected narcotic was weighed in his presence.
The suspect was placed into custody pending charges.
