East Ruimveldt man fined for slapping mother

A man was on Friday slapped with an unlawfully assault charge when he appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts before Magistrate Leron Daly.
Kerron Cummings of Lot 10 East Ruimveldt, Georgetown, pleaded guilty to the charge which stated that on May 9, 2018 while at the East Ruimveldt home, he slapped his mother, Maxine Baird to her face.
The prosecutor told the court that on the day in question, Baird was carrying clothes into the house when the defendant blocked the door with his hand.
The young man was subsequently asked to remove his hands but instead he became annoyed and dealt Baird a slap to her face.
The matter was reported and an investigation was carried out.
However the man’s mother asked that the court be lenient with her son while citing that he is a “good boy” and needs counselling.
“If he was in his right sense he would have never did what he did, I don’t want him to go to jail, I want him to get counselling,” the woman explained to the court.
Magistrate Daly instructed that the man be mentally evaluated by a psychiatrist. He was fined $10,000 or an alternative of two weeks’ imprisonment.
