Easter Stakes cancelled after persistent rain renders track unsafe

The Easter Stakes horse racing event has been officially cancelled due to persistent adverse weather conditions, organisers have confirmed, citing safety concerns for participants and spectators.
In an official notice on Saturday, organisers stated that every effort was made to proceed with the event, including relocating the race day from Port Mourant to the Kennard’s Memorial Turf Club in an attempt to salvage the meet. However, continuous rainfall has left the track unsuitable for competition.
According to the organisers, the ongoing wet conditions have prevented the surface from drying adequately, making it unsafe to host races. As a result, the decision was taken to cancel the event in the interest of safety.
They emphasised that the welfare of both horses and jockeys remains the top priority, while also noting the importance of ensuring a comfortable and enjoyable experience for spectators.
Organisers also extended an apology to horsemen, horsewomen, and the wider public for any inconvenience caused and thanked stakeholders for their understanding and continued support.
