Easter Swimming camp attracts over 100 participants

A healthy group of budding prospects in the pool are set to partake in the seventh annual Easter vacation swim camp being held at the National Aquatic Centre,  Lilendaal.
The camp was declared open on Monday morning by Assistant Director of Sport Brian Smith in which organisers revealed that though late registration was still on-going they have surpassed 100 students.
Running from Monday to Friday until the culmination on April 6, the collaborative effort of the Ministry of the Presidency, Department of Cohesion, Culture, Youth and Sports and the National Sports Commission is geared to hopefully inject new blood into the sport since it caters for ages six to eleven.

Smith explained this is one method of the government through NSC investing in young people and they should absorb as much information possible and consider the options of joining clubs under the umbrella of the Guyana Amateur Swimming Association (GASA).
With the aim of teach of young children to swim by helping them eradicate their fears of the water, GASA President Ivan Persaud urged participants to remember they are learning a life-long skill.
Persaud hopes in the future they can attract even more participants and further stated this year with the help of governing body FINA they will be have outreach programmes to hinterland areas.
