Eastman ecstatic for Pan-Am 2017

Hamza Eastman, fresh off consecutive victories is pumped and ready to blaze the trail when he participates in the Pan-American games 2017 which is slated for May 4-7.

Eastman, who has been in immaculate form of recent times was named as part of a seven-man team that will depart Guyana’s shores for the Dominican Republic where they will take part in the Pan American road cycling championship.

Speaking with Guyana Times Sport on Sunday, Eastman said his main objective is to continue to show the talent Guyana has and make his country proud.

“I always want to, you know make Guyana be recognised by going to those games, remember our country is very small and those things but I always want to do good for Guyana just make Guyana be recognised by the world, it doesn’t matter if we don’t win but once people know Guyana is here and participated well.” Eatman said.

When looking at the team that will be heading over to the island, the Cocos rider noted that there are some exceptional talent amongst the group and it is likely that they will do well. He emphasised on his other two club mates who have been doing well of recent.

Headlining the team which would have been selected based on participation in the Guyana Cycling Federation’s races so far this year is Eastman’s Team Cocos riding mate, Jamal John who has been in outstanding since November, 2016.

The other riders who have all been turning in encouraging performances to date this year are Paul DeNobrega (Digicel Team Evolution) who dominated the early part of 2017, Junior Niles (Team Coco’s) who has shown he is still a fierce competitor going arguably unchallenged in the veterans division, Raphael Leung (We Stand United) who has shown good prospects, Dwayne Gibbs Jnr. (Kaieteur) and Andrew Hicks (We Stand United) who has already shown he is ready to go pedal to pedal with the big boys having recently moved into the senior category.

Leung, Hicks and Gibbs will be contesting the Under-23 category which will be a 140Km race on May 6, while John, DeNobrega, Eastman and Niles will be aiming to bring glory for Guyana in the Elite segment of the race on May 7 which will be a 170Km battle.

There will also be individual Time Trials but the Guyanese would not be participating.
