EBB men remanded on robbery, narcotics charges

Two men from communities on the East Bank of Berbice (EBB) have been remanded to prison on separate charges of robbery and possession of narcotics.
Remanded are Simon Davis, a 23-year-old labourer of Heartburn Village, and 26-year-old Clive Vanlewin of Glasgow New Housing Scheme.
Davis has been remanded for the offence of robbery-under-arms committed on a couple in their fifties on January 25.
That robbery occurred at the couple’s residence at Glasgow New Housing Scheme, EBB.
The Police have said that the accused was arrested on Tuesday last, and placed before the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court, where the charge of robbery-under-arms Contrary to Section 222 (C) of the Criminal Law (offences) Act Chapter 8:01 was read to him by Magistrate Peter Hugh. This case will continue on February 18.
Meanwhile, 26-year-old Clive Vanlewin of Glasgow New Housing Scheme, EBB appeared before New Amsterdam Magistrate Peter Hugh on Tuesday to answer to a charge of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking. He was also remanded to prison, and his case will continue on February 18.
Police arrested Vanlewin on Friday 28th January 2022, when he was then charged with the offence of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking contrary to Section 5(1)(a)(i) of the Narcotic Drug and Psychotropic Substance (Control) Act Chapter 10:10.
At the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court, he pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to him. (G9)
