Orland Simon of Lot 62 First Street, Covent Garden, East Bank Demerara was on Monday remanded to prison when he appeared before Linden Magistrate Clive Nurse charged with possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.
Unrepresented by legal counsel, the 21-year-old denied the prosecutor’s contention that Police, conducting a routine stop-and-search operation on the Linden-Soesdyke Highway at Bamia on August 31, discovered in his possession eight grammes of cannabis sativa packaged in small Ziploc bags.
The Prosecutor, however, contended that the father of one was a passenger in a minibus heading into the interior when he was nabbed with the prohibited substance.
The Prosecutor objected to bail on grounds of the seriousness and gravity of the offence, and bail was thus denied. The defendant has been remanded to prison until October 4.
