Eccles man wanted for $2.6M firearm fraud jailed

Forty-one-year-old David Singh, also called “Dave”, a driver from Eccles New Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara, was on Wednesday sentenced to 18 months of imprisonment on a charge of obtaining money by false pretences.
Singh, for whom an arrest warrant was issued, was arrested on Sunday and appeared before Magistrate Dylon Bess at the Diamond/Golden Grove Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, where the charge was read to him.
Police stated that Singh had collected $2.6 million from two brothers, ages 35 and 30, a contractor and an operator, respectively, both from Best Plantation, West Coast Demerara, between June 1 and June 15, 2026, under the pretence of obtaining firearm licences for them.
However, after handing over the $2,610,000 to Singh, they later received documents purporting to be firearm licence approvals. The documents were subsequently examined and found to be fraudulent.
The matter was reported to the Police on Monday, July 20, 2026. At court on Wednesday, he pleaded guilty and was sentenced to eighteen months of imprisonment.
