ECD man busted with plastic gun during Police patrol
A 23-year-old Foulis, East Coast Demerara (ECD) man was on Friday evening arrested following the discovery of a plastic gun in his possession. The man was reportedly intercepted by Police ranks during a patrol exercise in the area.
Based on reports received, the ranks initially observed two males on bicycles who attempted to escape after they saw the Police patrol.
The Police gave chase and caught up with one of them while the second managed to escape. Upon his arrest, the gun was found in his possession.
He was questioned by detectives but remained silent. As such, he was taken into custody and is assisting with investigations.
Only a few days ago a 44-year-old miner and his 53-year-old reputed wife were arrested after a pump-action shotgun was found hidden under their bed at Turasi Backdam in Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni).
Police were at the time conducting searches on several dredge camps in the Middle Mazaruni area, and upon searching the couple’s camp, the firearm was found hidden under a mattress on a bed.
They were subsequently taken into Police custody and later charged.
