ECD man remanded on gun, ammo charges

An Enterprise Garden, East Coast Demerara (ECD) man was on Monday remanded to prison when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts charged with gun and ammunition possession.

Andrew Budhu, 20, appeared before City Magistrate Annette Singh and pleaded not guilty to the offense, which alleged that on 8 July, 2016 at Wellington Street, Georgetown, he had in his possession one .9mm pistol and fives matching rounds of ammunition.

The case file was not complete but the Police Prosecutor objected to bail.

Budhu begged for bail, telling the court that he has a two-month- old baby. However, his request was denied.

He will return to court on 3 August for trial.
