EDFA mourns passing of Buxton United Coach Hubert McPherson

The East Demerara Football Association (EDFA) has expressed profound sadness following the passing of Buxton United Football Club head Coach Hubert McPherson, affectionately known as “Coach Dan”.

In a statement posted on its social media page, the EDFA extended condolences to McPherson’s wife, family and the wider Buxton United family, describing his passing as a deep loss to the football fraternity.
According to the association, a team led by EDFA President Rickford Profitt and comprising Grantley Abrams, Jacqueline DeFreitas and Aaron Blackman, visited McPherson at his home on Sunday, September 13.
The EDFA said McPherson appeared to be in good spirits during the visit, during which meaningful discussions were held with him, his wife and other family members. The association also made arrangements to assist with transportation for his regular therapy sessions and provided financial and other forms of support, with hopes that he would make a speedy recovery.
The association said it was, therefore, with a deep sense of shock and sadness that it learned of McPherson’s passing on Wednesday morning.
McPherson was described as a valued member of the football fraternity who demonstrated a genuine commitment to the development and advancement of the sport. The EDFA also highlighted his recent graduation from the Guyana Football Federation’s C Licence Coaching Programme as evidence of his dedication to improving his knowledge and Coaching skills.
His passing, the association noted, represents a significant loss to his family, friends, colleagues, players and the wider football community, particularly Buxton United, where he served as head Coach.
The EDFA extended its deepest sympathy to McPherson’s wife, children, relatives, friends, colleagues, teammates, players and the entire Buxton United family, while offering prayers for strength, comfort and courage during their period of bereavement.
“May the soul of Hubert ‘Coach Dan’ McPherson rest in eternal peace,” the association stated.
