Linden schoolgirl stabbing

In light of the stabbing of a 15-year-old schoolgirl in Linden, Region 10 (Upper Demerara- Berbice) last week, Education Officer Rabindra Singh has indicated that the region’s Education Department can only offer moral support to those affected. He said that the matter is in the hands of the Police and as such, the Department’s intervention is limited.

In an invited comment on the matter, Singh said the Education Ministry does not allow the Department to intervene in such cases and it cannot give any statements regarding the issue. He said that the Department can only give moral support to those affected and it has been carrying this out. According to Singh, he and a team have since visited the affected Linden Foundation Secondary School student and has been offering moral support.
Meanwhile, the 12 and 14-year-old sisters, who are at the centre of the stabbing, have since been released from Police custody. This comes after the Police application to the High Court for a further 72 hours period detention of the teen was denied.
Meanwhile, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has advised the Police to conduct further investigations into the stabbing of Linden Foundation Secondary School student.
The teen was stabbed to her back with a Rambo knife by a schoolmate during a fight on Thursday last.
Meanwhile, the victim of Central Amelia’s Ward, Linden remains a patient at the Intensive Care Unit at the Linden Hospital Complex (LHC). Her condition is listed as stable.
The student, who was stabbed to her lower back, suffered extensive injuries to her muscles, tendons and several of her internal organs including her lungs, spleen, diaphragm and stomach.
The stabbing occurred at about 15:00h at Third Corner, Central Amelia’s Ward and was caught on camera and shared on social media.
Based on reports received, the injured student was involved in a physical altercation with another female student of the said school when she was stabbed. The suspect is the older sister of the student with whom the victim had the altercation.
