Edward B. Beharry & Co. recommits support for Youth Basketball Guyana

Youth Basketball Guyana (YBG) has received a financial boost for the continuation of its developmental work with youths through sponsorship from Edward B. Beharry & Co.

Received on Thursday April 21, 2022, this sponsorship marks the 12th consecutive year that Edward B. Beharry & Company has reaffirmed its support for youth development through basketball with its partnership with Youth Basketball Guyana.
To date, the generous Edward B. Beharry & Co Ltd is the most consistent sponsor of school and youth basketball, notwithstanding the minor interruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, which had forced a pause to school basketball for two years.
In a simple but significant ceremony held at Edward B. Beharry’s Charlotte Street office in Georgetown, Mrs Anjuli Beharry-Strand handed over a cheque to Rayad Boyce, Co-Director of Youth Basketball Guyana.
In brief remarks, Mrs Beharry-Strand expressed her profound appreciation to Chris Bowman and Rayad Boyce, whom she believes are not thanked enough for initiating and following through on this initiative, which provides young people with opportunity to showcase their athletic talent.
She also noted that being involved in sports allows for healthy competition and inclusivity, and with the aid of coaching and guidance, it can help to build talent and promote good sportsmanship among athletes.
Beharry-Strand noted her company’s satisfaction with being involved in this rewarding venture for the past 12 years.
In accepting the sponsorship, Rayad P. Boyce, Co-Director of YBG, expressed appreciation for the continued support from Edward B. Beharry & Co towards school and grassroots basketball over the years. He also noted that it’s mentionable that EBB & Co first came on board during the 2009 National School Basketball Festival, and has contributed significantly to the NSBF development, now the premier school basketball championships. This year will mark the 15th anniversary of the NSBF (Festival).
The Edward B Beharry & Co Ltd started from humble beginnings in 1937: as a small importer, wholesaler and retailer of food products, but has now evolved into a large conglomerate that includes manufacturing, marketing, financial services, vehicle dealership, and recently fast food. The company is a household name for its ChampionTM, IndiTM, and ChicoTM, as wide range of mixed spices and seasoning among other things.
