Elderly woman rescues child from burning home

A devasting fire in Vryheids Lust, East Coast Demerara, has left a family homeless with at least one elderly woman nursing burns about her body.

The Lot 38 South Vryheid’s Lust, ECD home went up in flames just after 13:00h on Friday.
At the time of the fire, an elderly woman and a child were in the house.
She, however, managed to get the child to safety during which she received burns to her arms and back. She was reportedly rescued by residents within the area.
Firefighters from Alberttown and Campbellville Fire Stations responded to the report but by the time they arrived the building was already engulfed in flames.
While they were able to put out the fire, nothing was saved.

The origin of the fire is yet to be determined as members of the Fire Service continue their investigation.
