A 61-year-old man died on Wednesday after a collision with a truck along the Craig Public Road, East Bank Demerara.
Dead is Lal Singh of New Hope, East Bank Demerara, who was riding an unregistered electric cycle.
Police said the accident occurred at about 17:10h and involved motor lorry GAB 5043, driven by a 29-year-old man of Lusignan, East Coast Demerara.
According to preliminary investigations, the lorry was proceeding south along the eastern driving lane of Craig Public Road in a line of traffic when the driver reportedly felt the vehicle go over a hump. The driver later heard someone shouting for him to stop.
The driver stopped the lorry and reversed a short distance, and Singh was then seen lying beneath the left side of the vehicle near the front wheel with injuries about his body. The electric cycle was found nearby.
Emergency Medical Technicians were summoned to the scene and transported Singh to the Diamond Regional Hospital in a semi-conscious condition. He was examined by a doctor on duty but later succumbed while receiving medical treatment.
His body was subsequently taken to Sandy’s Funeral Home, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Police said two breathalyser tests were conducted on the lorry driver, and no trace of alcohol was detected.
The driver remains in Police custody as investigations continue.
