The aim of the annual event is to bring local agro-processors together in a central location to promote the sale and use of locally-produced merchandises at affordable prices.
The public was invited and had a first-hand opportunity to sample all the local products that were on sale which included an array of herbal wines, tonic wines for males, coconut oil products, and spices.
More than 15 local manufacturers showcased their products made and packaged in Guyana.
According to GMC representative Shevon Nedd, the goal of the exhibition is to get local products on the shelves of local and international supermarkets.
Further, Nedd noted that the GMC was working along with several supermarkets throughout Guyana to showcase the locally-produced items.
One of the exhibitors who operates the East to Live company displayed a wide array of achars, including her signature golden apple achar as well as peppers, tamarind balls, and carambola fruits for cakes.
“Most of these products have in ginger, turmeric, and cayenne pepper so most of these things that I’m promoting are for persons to start adaption to eating healthy. If you check up on the ingredients, you will see that most of them are healthy,” proprietor Yonette Mc Pherson explained.
Michael Moore, the owner of Da Real Products, showcased a variety of tonic wines made from different roots, including the “Devil Doer”. Moore says he has been in the business for more than 10 years, but notes that it is sometimes difficult to get sales up, since “money isn’t stirring for the customers”.
The exhibition will continue today, but at the National Park.
