Emergency Medical Services launched in Region 3

In a significant step forward for healthcare accessibility, Emergency Medical Services (EMS) have been officially introduced in Region Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara).
Residents across a vast stretch from Ruimzigt, West Coast Demerara to Vesneck, West Bank Demerara now have access to vital assistance, with Ambulance #19 stationed and operational at the La Grange Fire Station.
The introduction of this service means that help is now just a phone call away – individuals in need can dial 912 to summon urgent medical aid.

In a release on Sunday, the Guyana Fire Service (GFS) said that the initiative reflected a concerted effort to close critical gaps in emergency healthcare provision, ensuring that communities have reliable access to lifesaving assistance precisely when it is most needed. With the launch of EMS in Region Three, residents can breathe easier, knowing that their well-being is safeguarded by a responsive and dependable medical support system.
Just two months ago, Matthews Ridge, Region One (Barima-Waini) received a boost in health, education, and youth and sports development.
A new ambulance and a minibus were officially handed over to the community by Housing and Water Minister Collin Croal, during an outreach at the Community Centre Ground.
During the small ceremony, Croal emphasised the Government’s commitment to enhancing the lives of its citizens, noting that Matthews Ridge residents were no exception.
“Matthews Ridge itself, whether you are coming from the other end…you will see a lot of development taking place, whether infrastructural or improving the lives of the people here,” Croal is quoted as saying in a Department of Public Information (DPI) report.
The ambulance was procured through the Health Ministry. The Matarkai sub-district is now equipped with three ambulances, at Baramita, Matthews Ridge, and Port Kaituma.
