Ranks of the Guyana Police Force (GPF) have apprehended three pitmen for the alleged beating and robbing of a Brazilian businessman, which occurred on Friday.
According to reports, the incident occurred at about 17:30h.
The gold miner, 62-year-old Adam DaSilva of Boa Vista, Brazil, was beaten and robbed of a quantity of raw gold at the Sandhill/Oku Landing, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni)
He suffered a fractured leg and multiple lacerations about his body. Adams has been admitted to the Bartica Regional Hospital, where he is said to be in a stable condition.
The three employees – aged 19, 20 and 23 – were caught and detained hours after the incident. They confessed to the crime.
All three pitmen resided within the East Bank Essequibo and Essequibo Coast area. They reportedly told investigators that they committed the act after being unpaid for work done.
Police are still investigating the matter.
