Enmore housewife jailed, fined for cocaine-trafficking
Surujdai Hussain, a 30-year-old housewife of Lot 633 Foulis, Enmore, East Coast Demerara, will be spending the next six months in jail on a conviction of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.
Hussain, c/d “Latchmie”, was arraigned on the charge before Vigilance Magistrate Alisha George last Friday, and has pleaded guilty to trafficking 5.3 grams of cocaine. Consequent to her guilty plea, she has been sentenced to six months’ imprisonment and fined $10,000.
Police have said that ranks were on a mobile patrol at ‘Phase 2′, Good Hope, ECD last Thursday, December 29, 2022, when they observed Hussain standing at a corner of the road acting in a suspicious manner. As such, she was arrested and searched, and Police found on her person a yellow-and-black plastic bag in which was contained several small, transparent Ziplock bags which each had a quantity of cocaine.
According to reports, Hussain was arrested early last year on a similar charge, and had been placed on $75,000 bail pending the determination of her trial. (G1)
