Thakurian pleaded not guilty to the charge which stated that on August 9 at CJIA, he was in possession of 88.2 kilograms of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.
Reports are that the illicit substance was unearthed in a quantity of frozen fish and shrimp at about 18:40h by ranks of the Police Narcotics Branch, who intercepted a cargo shipment of 35 boxes of seafood. Eight of the boxes contained the illegal drugs. The shipment was part of outgoing cargo destined for New York.
In court on Friday, defence attorney Peter Hugh made a bail application saying that his client had no knowledge of the illegal substance. However, his submissions were overruled and the defendant was remanded to prison.
The case will continue on September 26.
