The owner of a hotel at Eteringbang Landing, Cuyuni River, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni) was found dead in his bed on Wednesday. He has been identified as 62-year-old Edmilson Dos Santos, called ‘Damicio’, a Brazilian national.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that, upon the discovery, the businessman was the only occupant of the hotel, which consists of 12 rooms.
Police have said that a vendor who operates a hot dog cart on the landing on Tuesday went to the hotel to rent a room, but was told by the hotelier to return the following morning.
The vendor indicated that he returned at about 11:00h the next morning, and called out to Dos Santos, but after receiving no answer, he pushed opened the businessman’s bedroom door, and it was then he made the gruesome discovery.
The Police were immediately contacted, and the man’s body was found lying face down, while his feet were bound and his neck tied with white scotch tape. His hands were tied to the front of his body with a hammock. A mattock was found stuck in the middle of his skull, and his forehead appeared to have been bludgeoned.
No arrest was made, but investigations continue.
