Essequibo bundled out for 15

GCB/ Senior Female Inter-County

A totally one sided affair at the Everest Cricket Club, Camp road on Thursday left those in attendance stunned as Essequibo were displaced for a mere 15 runs in the Guyana Cricket Board’s Senior Female Inter-County match.

Playing against a strong Berbice team, it was the West Indies duo, Erva Giddings and Tremayne Smartt who outfoxed the Essequibo batters, taking a combined

figure of 8-12 after Essequibo won the toss and elected to field.

Giddings bagged a five wicket haul for just nine runs while Smartt returned 3-6 as the Essequibo women could only manage to stay at the crease for a total of 37 deliveries to lose the match by an enormous 278 run margin.

Charlene Fredericks was the only batter for Essequibo who did not take her mark at the crease due to an injury suffered during the Berbice innings.

Berbice batted first on the track, posting an imposing 293-4, batting out the full quota of 50 overs. Estel Lewis (1-36) and Althea Newark (1-37) were the leading Essequibo bowlers against the Berbicians who worked the gaps beautifully and picked up the odd boundaries as well on the big outfield.

Player-of-the-match, Melanie Henry stroked an even 50 and was supported by Shabika Gajnabi and Sheneta Grimmond with 48 and 47 respectively.

Essequibo will be looking to change their fortunes when they take on hosts Demerara when the tournament resumes on Saturday at the same venue while the final is set for Sunday between Demerara and Berbice at the Georgetown Cricket Club ground, Bourda.
