Anna Regina businessman Harmond Persaud has embarked on a food distribution initiative in the township of Anna Regina, Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam).
Ever since the COVID-19 lockdown, the businessman and his family have been cooking and distributing free hot meals every Sunday to the less fortunate in the village.
Items prepared for distribution
Persaud said that he has been getting the backings of his overseas family members.
So far, Persaud said that the programme is well received and it gave him the encouragement to continue to help out the less fortunate.
Meanwhile, the Lions Club, The Essequibo Coast Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Jagmohans and several mandirs would have also donated food items towards the initiative.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many persons were laid off of their jobs, including those who are the sole breadwinners of their families. As such, many are now left to wonder where the next meal will come from.
