Two Essequibo Coast regions Two men were recently fined for driving under the influence of alcohol when they appeared at the Anna Regina Magistrate’s Court.
Little John Candie, 33, of Hibernia Essequibo Coast, was arrested on Sunday, March 28, 2026, along the Suddie Public Road Essequibo Coast but appeared on Thursday before Magistrate Ravindra Mohabir, who read the charge against him.
He pleaded guilty and was fined $200,000 or an alternative of six months’ imprisonment.
Meanwhile, Samuel Smith, 21, a construction worker of Lima Sands, Essequibo Coast, was also charged with driving while his breath alcohol level exceeded the prescribed limit.
He was arrested along the La-Bella Alliance on Sunday, March 22, 2026, and appeared before Magistrate Ravindra Mohabir on Tuesday, March 31.
He too pleaded guilty to the charge when it was read to him and suffered a similar fate – a $200,000 fine or, by default, six months’ imprisonment.
