Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 59-year-old man who collapsed and died at Richmond Backdam, Essequibo Coast, Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam).
Dead is Toolsie Balgobin. Reports are that Balgobin died at about 18:30h on Wednesday evening.
Balgobin worked at the Anna Regina Town Council as a clerk and was also a rice farmer. This newspaper was told that the man would normally go to the backdam in the afternoons to check his crop and cows.
The man’s son, Rockliff Balgobin, related that he accompanied his father to the backdam, adding that as the elderly Balgobin mounted his motorcycle and attempted to place his helmet on, he collapsed to the ground. Attempts were made to resuscitate him but he succumbed.
The body was later taken to the Anna Regina Police Station, where it was examined for marks of violence but none was seen. It was then transported to the Suddie Hospital, where it was pronounced dead on arrival by a doctor on duty. A post-mortem examination was scheduled at the Suddie Hospital Mortuary.
