This newspaper was told that the father of four was riding his bicycle on the Queenstown Public Road when he was struck down by a speeding motorcar. The driver then fled the scene.
Public-spirited citizens rushed to the unconscious man’s assistance, picked him up and took him to the Suddie Public Hospital. The man suffered severe head injuries and was transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) on Monday.
A relative told this newspaper that the man is in a critical condition at the GPHC.
“When I visited him at Suddie Hospital, he was still unconscious. I saw a very big wound across his head and I know the car had to hit him with full speed,” the relative stated.
A report was made to the Police, and based on information received, a car with registration number PMM 7554 was found hidden at Lima Sands. Lima Sands is located deep on the sand reef on the Essequibo Coast. The Police are working on a theory that the driver abandoned the car and fled the Essequibo Coast. Efforts are now being made to determine the owner of the vehicle.
Police are hunting for the driver.
