Essequibo Coast pedestrian struck by speeding driver

An Essequibo Coast, Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam) man was killed on Sunday evening when a motor car slammed into him while he was crossing the Adventure Public Road, Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam).

Dead: Budhidra Koosiall

Dead is 52-year-old Budhidra Koosiall also known as “Dumb Bai”, of Adventure village. The accident occurred about 19:50h.
It is alleged that Koosiall, who was a mechanic, and who also had a speech impairment, was intoxicated at the time of the accident.
According to information reaching Guyana Times, the accident involved a silver motor car, PSS 150, which was driven by a 41-year-old of Lima Sands, Essequibo Coast. The driver of that motor car is an ambulance driver attached to the Oscar Joseph Hospital, Charity.
An eyewitness related that, “I was on the road when a set of man along with Dumb Bai bin ah drink in front we front neighbour and is come I come home and then hear a loud impact. When I come out, I see Dumb Bai on the road lay down and the car there. When them man raise up he, he head spin around, so I suspect like he hit his neck causing it to break.”

Meanwhile, Police in a statement said that motor car PSS 150 was proceeding south on the eastern drive lane at a fast rate of speed when the driver alleged that he observed, from a distance, a pedestrian walking from the western side of the public road and heading to the eastern side.
The driver alleged that upon seeing the pedestrian, he attempted to avoid a collision, but nonetheless, the right front-side of the car hit Koosiall, which caused him to fall on the front windscreen and then onto the road.
Koosiall received injuries on his body and was picked up in an unconscious condition by the driver and other public-spirited citizens and transported to the Suddie Public Hospital. He was pronounced dead on arrival. The body was later transported to Suddie Mortuary awaiting post-mortem examination.
The driver was arrested and is in custody, assisting with the investigation.
