Essequibo Coast ranger found dead in home

Dead: Deodat Persaud

Deodat Persaud, a 50-year-old ranger attached to the Queenstown Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDC) and of Anna Regina Housing Scheme, died mysteriously at some time between Saturday and Tuesday.
His death has left his family members in shock at their Columbia Village home.
“For the past three days Persaud didn’t report to work, and we have (been) constantly calling his cell phone, but all the calls were missed,” a co-worker from the NDC has said.
Enquiries disclosed that Persaud, who had lived alone, had been suffering from epilepsy. His nephew Mohindra Persaud has said he would usually check on his uncle on a weekly basis. He said that on Tuesday he went on his routine visit at about 15:40h, and found his uncle lying motionless on the floor.
The late Deodat Persaud’s neighbour has said she had last seen him on Saturday morning.
The Police have since examined his body, but have found no marks of violence. The body was taken to the Suddie Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. A post-mortem examination is to be done to determine the cause of his death.
