Essequibo Coast woman charged for alleged online humiliation

A 29-year-old woman of Lima, Essequibo Coast, Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam) appeared in court on Tuesday charged under the Cyber Crime Act for allegedly using a computer system to humiliate another person. Patrina Butters, called “Mildred,” was charged with using a computer system to humiliate a person, contrary to Section 19(5)(a) of the Cyber Crime Act No. 16 of 2018. The charge relates to allegations involving Melissa Griffith and is said to have occurred on February 22, 2026, in Queenstown, Essequibo Coast.

Butters appeared before Magistrate Tariq Mohamed at the Anna Regina Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, where the charge was read to her. She pleaded not guilty and was released on $100,000 bail on the condition that she have no contact with, nor approach, the virtual complainant pending the outcome of the case.
The matter has been adjourned to May 13.
