The distribution of the kites on Friday was part of the youths’ quarterly activities for the year. Vice president of the group, Reema Natram, accompanied by executive members Sursattie Singh and Romesh Singh, handed over the kites to the children.
During the simple ceremony held at Bacchus playfield, Natram emphasised the need for children to know about Guyana’s national holidays and their significance. She said the activity was decided on after the youth group felt it was important to spread cheer during the Easter holidays.
Headmistress of the Fisher Nursery School, Miss Lucy (only name given), thanked the group for choosing Fisher Nursery to be beneficiaries of the exercise. During the distribution exercise, the youths helped the children to fly their kites, and also used the opportunity to interact with them.
The group is slated to distribute kites to the Capoey Amerindian community on the Essequibo Coast.
