Three drivers from the Essequibo Coast landed in court on Wednesday charged with Driving under the Influence (DUI).
They made their first appearance before Magistrate Dylon Bess at the Suddie Magistrate’s Court.
Kevin Brummel of Dartmouth; Mohan Lall of 121 Fathom Street, Anna Regina; and Nazeer Baksh of Aurora were each fined $7500 after they pleaded guilty to the traffic charges. They were charged separately.
The charges stated that Brummel, on January 14 on the Walton Hall Public Road, drove motor car PGG 9848 under the influence. He was stopped and a breathalyser test was conducted by a traffic officer on duty which detected traces of alcohol.
Then on January 13 on the Sparta Public Road, Lall drove motor car PRR 418 under the influence. A breathalyser test confirmed that he was above the legal limit of alcohol consumption.
Finally, Baksh drove motor car PGG 2900 under the influence.
They were all cautioned by the Magistrate about the offence. Magistrate Bess told the drivers that he was being lenient because they were first-time offenders.
He, however, warned them not to commit the act again, since they were not only endangering their lives but those of the public as well.
