Essequibo man committed to stand trial for attempted murder

Twenty-nine-year-old Mark Chester, a labourer of Queenstown village on the Essequibo Coast in Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam), was on Wednesday committed to stand trial before a judge and jury for attempted murder.

Attempted murder accused Mark Chester

The preliminary inquiry was held virtually before Magistrate Tamieka Clarke at the Anna Regina Magistrate’s Court, and Chester stood before the magistrate accused of attempting to murder Marlon Jones, 45, on April 12, 2024 at Queenstown.
Two witnesses testified during the hearing on Wednesday, after which Magistrate Clarke ruled that the prosecution had presented sufficient evidence to the court for a trial. As such, Chester’s trial will commence at the next practicable session of the Suddie Supreme Criminal Court.
The accused has reserved his defence and witness for the High Court, and the magistrate has placed him on bail in the sum of $500,000.
