Essequibo man injured in Mother’s Day accident discharged

A 20-year-old resident of Bethany Mission, Supenaam Creek, Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam) was on Thursday discharged from the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPHC) following his involvement in a vehicular accident on Mother’s Day.
The young man, Yoni Thomas, admitted that he was “taking a few shots” with his friends to celebrate the occasion and on his way home, he was struck by a vehicle.
As such, he was rushed to the Suddie Public Hospital but due to the extent of his injuries, he was transferred to the GPHC where he underwent CT scans among other medical examinations. The young man was being treated for a fractured skull.
Thomas’ mother, Ramona Thomas said she is still trying to put the pieces together to understand what exactly happened on that night she almost lost her second child.
She added that she heard conflicting versions of what actually transpired. According to her, the driver who committed the crime drove off the scene but he was later arrested.
The mother explained that the driver subsequently ended up at the Suddie Hospital with his girlfriend, who was injured during the accident.
Persons who recognised the vehicle then made contact with the Police, which resulted in his arrest. Ramona Thomas is now calling for the driver to face the full brunt of the law.
