Thirty-three-year-old Cleon Alphanso of Henrietta, Essequibo Coast, Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam) was on Thursday remanded to prison on a possession of narcotics charge. Alphanso was arrested on Wednesday at Anna Regina, Essequibo Coast, with 3.2 grams of cocaine. He was subsequently charged and appeared before Magistrate Ravindra Mohabir at the Anna Regina Magistrate’s Court. He pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him. As such, he was remanded to prison until April 30, 2026.
Meanwhile, 48-year-old Poonraj Samaroo, a labourer of La Belle Alliance, Essequibo, was sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment by Magistrate Mohabir after he pleaded guilty to the offence of malicious damage to property.
The act was committed on Sunday at Anna Regina.
