The Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha Essequibo Coast Nawjawan on Saturday successfully hosted its monthly camp at the Golden Fleece Vishwa Jhoti Mandir. The camp attracted over 60 youths from various mandirs along the coast.
Children were actively involved in culturally inclined activities, including Katak dancing, educational discourses and fun games. Discourses were given by Nazim Hussain and local doctor Danraj. Dances were taught by dance teacher Sursattie Singh from Swarswattie Dance Academy.
According to Essequibo Nawjawan Chairman Nandram Prabhu, the camp is hosted monthly in an effort to give youths the opportunity to become actively involved in their culture. He said since the camps started, there has been a positive feedback and more and more children are coming on board.
Prabhu said at the camps, children are taught good moral values and are also taught readings from Hindu scriptures. He said participants also took part in youth discussions where they got to express themselves and their thoughts.
Youths who attended the camp were very happy and said they learnt a lot from the sessions. Since the year began, the organisation has held many events, including four camps, a Diwali parade, a back-to-school drive and other charity drives.
