Essequibo through to final after another wash out

– Lower Corentyne battle Georgetown in qualifier at Albion

A decision was made by the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) to formally call off the four matches that were scheduled for Saturday in round seven of the Jaguars 50-over tournament following heavy rain at the match venues all day Friday.
In round five, only one match was possible at the Tuschen ground when Essequibo prevailed over West Demerara while the other thee scheduled fixtures were abandoned. With that win, Essequibo remained unbeaten and continued to lead the points table.

In round six, all four games were abandoned without a ball being bowled leaving the players short of work and the selectors scratching their heads since the 50-overs league is the yardstick for selection to the Guyana Jaguars Regional Super50 team in 2018.
With the final two rounds being washed out, Essequibo remained on top of the standings with 39 pints and have qualified automatically for the December 30 final. Defending champions and second placed Lower Corentyne with 36 points will play Georgetown with 26 points in the play-off on Thursday December 28 at the Albion Community Centre ground with the winner qualifying to meet Essequibo at Everest Cricket Club which has been named as the tentative venue.
Essequibo who are the current Jaguars 3-day champions will be looking to complete the double, weather permitting.
