Essequibo trio slapped with B&E charge

Three Essequibo Coast, Region Two (Essuquibo Islands/West Demerara) men on Monday appeared in court.

Mark McKenzie, 33, Deon Dwarka, 24, and Akim Spellen, 21, of Henrietta Village, Essequibo Coast, appeared before Magistrate Sunil Scarce at the Charity Magistrate’s Court charged with breaking and entering and larceny. It is alleged that the men committed the offence between November 9 and 10 on the home of Norma Hercules.

The court was told that the men stole one flatscreen television valued $200,000 and one camera monitor valued $20,000.

The Prosecution contended that the trio admitted to the offence after thorough investigations by the Police.

In court Monday, McKenzie and Dwarka pled not guilty to the charge and were remanded to prison. Spellen on the other hand pled guilty.

A probation report was ordered by the magistrate before sentencing.

The case will continue on December 6.
