Esso Exploration discusses social responsibility with Govt
A team from Esso Exploration and Production Guyana Limited (EEPGL) met Social Protection Minister, Volda Lawrence, as part of its stakeholders’ engagement activities, specifically related to the Liza Phase 1 environmental permitting process.
The meeting was part of an ongoing exchange of information that allows the company to identify, understand and address community/stakeholders priorities and concerns; and improve decision-making and transparency through engagement with key stakeholders.
Environmental Resources Management (ERM) has been contracted by EEPGL to support the Liza Phase 1 environmental permitting process, including associated stakeholder engagement activities.
According to EEPGL engaging stakeholders is an important aspect of managing ongoing social and environmental performance and non-technical risks. Their engagement typically includes Government officials, co-venturers, the community and the public at large, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and civic leaders, media, employees and contractors, and industry associations.
During Saturday’s meeting, the company sought to engage the Social Protection Ministry to provide information on its project and ascertain the requirement of the Ministry to ensure maximum social protection.
