ETI, LTI, MTI dominate in MODEC Tertiary Tournament

The Essequibo, Mahaicony and Linden Technical Institutes had dream outings in the MODEC Tertiary Education Football Tournament on Saturday.
The day’s action began on the West Coast of Demerara (WCD) at the National Track and Field Centre (NTFC), Leonora where the Essequibo Technical Institute (ETI) drubbed the Leonora Technical and Vocational Training Centre (LT&VTC), 5-1.

LT&VTC took the lead first in the contest, through Kenard Simon in the seventh minute. Deangelo Davidson’s 18th-minute strike later levelled the scores for ETI.
With a 1-1 score at the half, it was anybody’s game up until Momes Henry handed ETI the lead in the 46th minute. A Jim Carter brace in the 50th and 51st minutes, followed by one goal off the boots of M Simpson in the 76th gave ETI an unassailable lead and thus the victory.
Over at the Buxton Community Ground, the Mahaicony Technical Institute (MTI) got the better of the Guyana School of Agriculture (GSA) for a second time, getting past them 8-2.
The GSA got ahead first, producing goals in the 7th and 12th minutes, however MTI’s scorers rocked the net in the 22nd, 29th, 32nd, 40th, 46th, 48th, 52nd and 54th minutes.
Linden Technical Institute (LTI) brought the curtains down on the day’s proceedings with a stunning comeback victory against the Cyril Potter College of Education (CPCE).
Theodore Alexander shocked LTI’s defence with a 3rd-minute strike while Dean Domingo found the back of the net in the 35th minute to hand CPCE a 2-0 lead by the half.

A look at the victorious ETI team

In the second half, however, Kymani Sealey spearheaded Linden’s comeback with a hat-trick in the 40th, 51st and 61st minutes. Dexter Milo added another strike in the 73rd minute to seal LTI’s victory.
The participating teams include University of Guyana Turkeyen; UG Tain Campus; Cyril Potter College of Education (CPCE); Government Technical Institute (GTI); Linden Technical Institute (LTI); Port Mourant Technical Institute (PMTI); New Amsterdam Technical Institute (NATI); Mahaicony Technical Institute (MTI); Essequibo Technical Institute (ETI); Upper Corentyne Technical Training Centre (UCTTC); Texila American University (TAU); Guyana School of Agriculture (GSA); Leonora Technical and Vocational Training Centre (LT&VTC) and Guyana Industrial Training Centre (GITC).
The teams in the tournament will be competing for a $300,000 grand prize to be given in kind for a school project. The second-, third- and fourth-place finishers will pocket $200,000, $100,000 and $50,000 for the same purpose.
