Everest Cricket Club, Nexgen Golf Academy collaborating to promote golf

The most recognised sport in Guyana (cricket) and the fastest growing sport in the country (golf) will be coming together under the auspices of the Everest Cricket Club and the Guyana Golf Association/Nexgen Golf Academy.
The leaders of these two entities have evinced a strong commitment to join forces to cross-promote their respective sports disciplines
President of the Everest Cricket Club, the Honourable Manzoor Nadir, Speaker of the House, accepted a donation of cricket bats, helmets and souvenirs from the Guyana Golf Association/Nexgen Golf Academy on Wednesday in the presence of EU Ambassador Fernando Ponz Canto; National Security Advisor Gerry Gouveia; Deputy Speaker of the House, Lenox Shuman; CEO of GO-Invest, Dr Peter Ramsaroop; and the GCCI’s Gerry Gouveia Jr.
“We welcome this partnership, as it would allow youngsters from all over the country the opportunity to participate in both sports, which share similar traits: focus, concentration and discipline. A lot of cricket greats are top golfers as well,” Nadir has said. “Aleem and I grew up a few corners away from each other in Albouystown, and we both know how sports can impact the lives of youngsters.”
This joint venture includes Honorary Membership being extended to both Presidents in each other’s organisations, a commitment to share and maintain ground facilities, joint training programmes, and provision of equipment and coaches for the programmes.
Golf has quickly risen to become a new favourite sport, especially among women and children, with Guyanese students taking golf at the CSEC examinations for the first time in our country’s history. The Government of Guyana has recognised golf’s rising popularity, and several golf facilities are now being planned for inclusion in Silica City and in other areas in the near future.
