The Everest Cricket Club have outplayed their guests, the Kumar Rampat Cricket Academy (KRCA) of Trinidad & Tobago, in a 40-over match played as part of the KRCA tour to Guyana with the main aim of exposing and developing their young players.
Although displaying a good, competitive spirit throughout the game, this Under-14 KRCA team could not prevent the
Everest Cricket Club from registering a nine-wicket win against them.
Taking first strike, KRCA were restricted to 46 all out in their allotment of 40 overs. Everest CC and Berbice Under-19 off-spinner Aaron Beharry was chiefly responsible for this collapse with miracle figures of 3-3 from 5 impressive overs, including three maidens.
He was well-supported by fellow spinners Vishal Persaud and Renaldo Mohammed. Persaud grabbed 2-0 in three maiden overs, while Mohammed finished with 2-3 in three overs.
Keron Ramoutar was the lone KRCA batsman to reach double figures, scoring 12 from 43 balls after the KCRA top order had been dismantled.
In reply, Everest lost Guyana Under-15 batsman Anthony Khan for a duck – being bowled all ends up by Adan Racha after facing only four balls.
Ushardeva Balgobin then came to the crease, and lit up the vocal gathering with his aggressive batting. The left-hander single-handedly took his team to victory with an impressive 39. Balgobin’s innings were decorated with three sixes and two fours as Everest scored 47 runs in only six overs.
With time remaining, the players assembled for a 20-over affair in which other players were given the chance to shine.
The KRCA advertised its main objectives for this tour as giving young players the opportunity to expand and develop both their cricketing and social skills, and to enable them to gain a sense of the geography of a neighbouring country.
The KRCA team will face-off against an Enmore team at Lusignan today, August 1, and return to play Everest on Friday, August 2. Their tour will be concluded on Saturday August 3 on the East Bank of Essequibo, where they will do battle against a Parika side. (Brandon Corlette)
