Ex-convict nabbed after throwing prohibited items into NA Prison

An ex-convict was on Tuesday morning nabbed after he threw a bag containing a number of prohibited items into the compound of the New Amsterdam Prison, Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne).

Several packs of cigarettes were discovered

The incident occurred sometime around 05:00h. The suspect is a resident of Caracas, Mount Sinai, West Canje, Berbice, and has previously served time at the same penitentiary.

Cellphones recovered at NA Prison on Tuesday

According to reports received, ranks of the New Amsterdam Prison Service Task Force were conducting regular routine checks around the perimeter of the Prison when they observed a male tossing a bulky bag over the penitentiary’s wall before fleeing.
The suspect was quickly pursued and apprehended a short distance away. He was later identified as a former ” guest of the State at the said institution”.
The bag that was thrown into the prison compound was retrieved by ranks.
The prohibited items in the bag included: 11 transparent bulky parcels containing 1638 grams of suspected cannabis; 140 packs of Pall Mall cigarettes; 10 packs of ‘bambu’ wrappers; three packets of ziplock bags containing a quantity of tobacco leaves; three cellular phones with SIM cards; two phone chargers; an ear-piece and two energy drink bottles containing suspected alcohol.
The suspect was handed over to the Police, and was currently in custody assisting with the investigation.
