Home News Ex-cop granted bail on illegal firearm charge
An ex-cop was on Monday granted bail on an illegal firearm possession charge when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
Thirty-two-year-old Andre Pollydore of South Ruimveldt, Greater Georgetown appeared before Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus and denied the charge, which stated that on December 18, 2019 at Sheriff Street, Campbellville, Georgetown, he had in his possession one 9mm pistol without being the holder of a firearm licence in force at the time.
He was represented by Attorney-at-Law Dexter Todd, who, in a bail application, told the court that his client was innocent, noting that the alleged firearm was found in a car which had four other occupants.
The court heard that Police ranks, acting on information, stopped motor vehicle PWW 57, in which Pollydore was among the occupants. A search was conducted and the firearm was found in the front passenger seat. But another prosecutor who was in court told the Magistrate that Pollydore handed over the gun to the ranks when the vehicle was stopped.
Following the conflicting statements by the Prosecutors, Magistrate Isaacs-Marcus released the ex-cop on $100,000 bail. However, as a condition for bail, Pollydore has to report to the Kitty Police Station every Friday until the conclusion of the case. The case will continue on January 27, 2020.
In 2017, Pollydore and two others, including ex-cop Teon Alleyne, were charged after Police found firearms and ammunition at a house in Campbellville, Georgetown.
The men were slapped with four charges each: two for illegal firearm possession and two for illegal possession of ammunition.
