Ex-cops executed daring daylight robbery on ECD supermarket
Two ex-Police Officers were on Thursday arrested moments after they executed a daring daylight robbery on the GST 2 Supermarket located at Success Railway Embankment, East Coast Demerara (ECD).
The suspects were identified by Police as Nicholas Blackman, 26, of Bamai Drive, Linden and Floyd Daniels, 27, of Sancho Street, Golden Grove, ECD. Based on reports received, a 20-year-old security guard attacked to the OSPEC International Security Firm was approached by the two suspects – one of whom identified himself as a Police Officer and requested to check his firearm.
The security officer reportedly complied and upon handing over the 9mm pistol which contained five live rounds of ammunition, he was held at gunpoint.
One of the suspects took the security officer to the end of the supermarket and placed a knife to his neck while his accomplice relieved a 46-year-old businesswoman of an undisclosed sum of cash.
After committing the robbery, they escaped in a red Toyota Spacio motor car bearing registration number PXX 8809.
The Police were immediately summoned and their swift response led to the arrest of the two perpetrators. The car was searched during which one pair of Army trousers, a vest and boots were discovered. In addition, one black, green and grey jersey, burgundy pants, one pair of Police pants, one grey jersey, one handcuff with key, one cream knife, two Samsung cellphones, one pair of blue sunshades, one certificate of birth, one identification card, one certificate of vehicle registration, fitness, one GTM Insurance card, one security badge, and a bunch of keys were also found in the car.
Further, the firearm that was taken away from the security guard was recovered in a black haversack that was being carried by one of the bandits. The Police stated that a quantity of cash was found on the second perpetrator.
They were arrested and escorted to the Beterverwagting Police Station, where they were processed. Detectives are presently reviewing Closed Circuit TV (CCTV) footage of the robbery.
