A 24-year-old clerk of Central Amelia’s Ward, Linden, was remanded to prison on Tuesday after being charged with the murder of 27-year-old Amar Jones, who was fatally shot last month at Half Mile, Wismar, Linden.
Shania Benjamin, the ex-girlfriend of Jones, appeared before Magistrate Rushelle Liverpool at the Linden Magistrate’s Court via Zoom, where she was charged with murder contrary to common law in connection with the killing, which occurred on Tuesday, December 30, 2025. She was not required to plead to the indictable offence. The matter was adjourned to Monday, February 16.

Jones, a driver of One Mile, Wismar, Linden, was shot and killed along the Half Mile Public Road while driving a motor canter. Preliminary police reports indicate that he was travelling along the roadway when he was approached by a motor car.
A male reportedly exited the vehicle and discharged several rounds at Jones before re-entering the car and fleeing the scene. Following the shooting, the suspects escaped, prompting a police response and an immediate manhunt.

Police ranks who arrived at the scene found Jones slumped and motionless in the driver’s seat of his vehicle. He was rushed to the Linden Hospital Complex, where he was pronounced dead on arrival by a doctor on duty. His body was later taken to G-Jetsco Funeral Home, where a post-mortem examination was conducted.
In the aftermath of the shooting, police arrested the 24-year-old woman. A motor vehicle believed to be linked to the incident was also seized and is being processed as part of the investigation.
Police have indicated that investigations remain ongoing as they continue their search for other suspects connected to the fatal shooting.
