A 37-year-old excavator operator of Crabwood Creek, Corentyne, Berbice, was on Friday granted M bail when he appeared at the Number 51 Magistrate’s Court on a manslaughter charge.
Vijay Arjunandan pleaded not guilty to the charge, which said that on August 1, 2016, at the Number 63 Beach, he caused the death of Veeren Mootoosammy, 9, of Lot 1 Mibicuri South, Black Bush Polder, while riding his jet ski.
Magistrate Charlyn Artiga also ordered that the accused lodge his passport and report to the Number 51 Police Station every Friday as a condition of his bail.
It had been reported that the little boy lost his life after an alleged accident at the Number 63 Beach, as families went there to celebrate Emancipation.
Mootoosammy, a grade four student of Yakasary Primary, had gone with two of his brothers and an uncle for the outing to the beach when tragedy struck.
