Exciting finale expected on Sunday

Digicel’s Schools Football Championship 2016

Digicel’s Head of Customer Care, Sherwin Osbourne is expecting an exciting finale as the curtains draw closer on the company’s schools football champions.
Speaking at a press conference on Thursday at the company’s headquarters, Osbourne’s rationale for the expected action packed games that the finals between Linden side Chritianburg/Wismar Secondary School and city side Chase Academic Foundation will bring is because it pits the top two teams in the tournament, who are both hungry for success, against each other.
The rematch of last year’s final means that the Linden side will be chasing their fifth consecutive title while the city side will be looking to avenge their heart rending loss.
The Digicel head further stated, “it has been an exciting tournament, we went to all 10 regions to play football, it has been amazing, so we don’t expect anything but an exciting final.”

On the opposing side, Principal of Chase Academic Foundation, Henry Chase is brewing with confidence as he firmly believes his team will win the coveted title since their team has been playing exceptionally well thus far in the tournament. Coordinator of the Championship Lavern Fraser, thanked all the additional assistant coordinators that would have helped in running the successful tournament, but noted that preparations would have started in March. Fraser highlighted that a lot of schools now have coaches which shows signs of improvement; however, she made mention to the fact that teachers and coaches still do not offer the technical aspect as regards to registrations for teams and it is something they will be able to look at next year. The final is slated for Sunday at the Guyana National Stadium and the winner of the event is slated to receive $1,000,000 toward the funding of a school project and the championship trophy while the second-place finisher will receive $700,000 and the runners-up accolade. The third and fourth-placed unit will walk away with $400,000 and $350,000 and the corresponding trophy. Similarly, $100,000 will be awarded to each zone winner. The third place-playoff will be between Sir Leon’s Lesson and Bush Lot Secondary, starting at 16:00h, while the final kicks off at 18:00h. Admission is free.
