Exhilarating semi-final clashes on today

The best of the best in secondary school football will be on show this evening when the semifinal of the KFC Goodwill tournament is contested today.

A glimpse of what to expect come this evening

The second annual edition of this tournament has seen concomitant increase in the number of contending teams and heightened competition from the school-age football players. Today, four promising teams will strap up their boots in hopes of pulling off a win in order to advance to the tournament’s final on Sunday, December 22.
A battle of hinterland football powerhouses will ensue in the first semifinal encounter, as Annai Secondary of Region 9 pit their skills against the wiles of Region 7’s Desiree Caesar Fox Secondary, aka Waramadong.
In a scintillating contest that had not been witnessed since the semifinal of the Digicel School’s Football 2017 edition, Annai had been down by 4-0, and Waramadong had thought they had the game in the bag. However, second- half play was definitely one of the greatest moments in schools’ football history, as a hail of goals resulted in a 7-5 come-from-behind victory for Annai.

The action is always hectic in the KFC Goodwill tournament

While many of those players have departed their teams, both current teams have shown that they still contain high quality footballers. Annai pulled off a resounding 9-1 victory over Annandale Secondary, and Waramadong ousted Marian Academy with a 4-0 victory. The likes of Waramadong’s Ovid Andrews and Annai’s Amir Robertson will be the characters to watch in this encounter, which will begin at 17:00hrs.
The curtains will come down on the semifinal phase when defending champions Shiva Boys Hindu College confront the challenge of Guyoil/Tradewind Tankers 2019 champions Lodge Secondary.
The Shiva Boys are on a high, having not lost a game in the tournament. In defeating Annai and Annandale Secondary by 3-0 and 6-2 respectively, the visitors from Trinidad and Tobago have also displayed great skill and a knack for solid defense.
As such, Lodge Secondary will be keen to look at their forward players, if they are to put up a challenge. Lodge, on the other hand, have lost one encounter: 3-1 to D.C. Fox Secondary (Waramadong), while simultaneously exuding brilliance against Marian Academy in a 6-1 victory.
As such, this pairing will be an interesting one to watch, as Lodge measures up to the foreign team for the first time. With talents like Shiva Boys’ Adica Ash, who has netted a hat trick in each game thus far, and Lodge’s Dorwin George, who does not let a game end without finding the back of the net, the second semi will be one to behold.
The KFC Final is scheduled for the Ministry of Education Ground, Carifesta Avenue, on Sunday, December 22. Aside from the title sponsors KFC, the tournament’s sponsors include Guyana Coema Construction Services Ltd, Mike’s Pharmacy, the Trophy Stall, and Tiger Rentals.
