The Linden Mayor and Town Council (LM&TC), Regional Democratic Council (RDC) of Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice) and the Civil Defence Commission (CDC) are currently monitoring the situation with regards to extreme erosion and flooding being experienced by residents in various parts of Linden.
Some of the areas which are adversely affected include Green Valley, One Mile, Buck Hill, Blueberry Hill, Wisroc, Silvercity, Silvertown, Canvas City, Amelia’s Ward, Noitgedacht and Fair’s Rust. The situation, which has worsened as a result of the inclement weather patterns, has resulted in damages to several yards, and in one of the more extreme cases, to a home at Blueberry Hill, Wismar. According to Linden Mayor Waneka Arrindell, the LM&TC has assessed what has been happening on the ground and has worked to ensure that all relevant authorities were informed of the situation.
“We found that in a lot of the areas there has been mass erosion, especially in those areas where persons would have built on slopes of land. So we have been able to take all of the information and documentation needed for all that’s happening. We had Silvercity that has had extensive flooding and that is due to two drains not being dug properly or to the depth,” she explained.
Arrindell continued that while the LM&TC is not equipped with the necessary finances, the RDC has stepped in to provide assistance.
