Approximately one month ago, ExxonMobil Guyana announced that they would again sponsor the Guyana Amazon Warriors team. However, not only are the oil and gas giants the exclusive sponsors of the Warriors, but they have also sought to sponsor the Women’s team that competed in both the SKYEXCH 6ixty and Massy Women’s CPL.

As has become customary, the Guyana Amazon Warriors and ExxonMobil met and mingled on Tuesday morning at the Marriott Hotel, marking yet another year of the company’s sponsorship of the local CPL franchise.
During his time at the microphone, ExxonMobil Guyana President Alistair Routledge underscored the company’s passion for social development through sport, while anticipating the carnival vibes the National Stadium would witness later this week.
“Sport plays an important part in community at the development level. We see sport representing teamwork, discipline, collaboration, lots of effort and planning. And so we’re also happy that we’re able to support a number of youth activities,” Routledge shared as he referenced the Company’s recent investment in football and basketball youth tournaments.

“So very important to us that we contribute in multiple layers, and we can help use sport to help build community, to help build that sport in the country,” he added.
Shifting focus on the upcoming CPL games at the National Stadium, Routledge commented, “We know how important cricket is to the nation. In fact, to the Caribbean and, indeed, many other nations around the world, and so we want to celebrate through the sport, through the players, through the nation, and I’m really looking forward to the matches that will be on show in the next ten days, to feel the atmosphere.
“It’s something that we’ve lacked for a couple of years, given the restriction of COVID; so, I’m sure it’s going to be an outpouring of energy as everyone gets back in the Stadium and gets to celebrate some games. And I’m sure that the Warriors have been saving their best for the home games,” the ExxonMobil President said with a smile.
GAW Team Logistics and PR Officer Romario Samaroo, touching on the value of ExxonMobil’s support for the Warriors, had this to say:
“This year marks the 6th consecutive season that the company has been with the Warriors, and that just underscores the strong bond both parties share with a common goal to see Guyana succeed. Partnerships like these go to the heart of what it means to be a true Warrior, and (are) a testament to ExxonMobil’s positive impact in the country, both socially and through sports,” Samaroo explained.
In addition, a signed GAW shirt was presented to Routledge by GAW Captain, Shimron Hetmyer.
